Group Content
There are 5 types of Community Group Content that our groups rotate through weekly.
Sermon Discussion – These discussions will focus on thematic questions based on the sermon content. You will still have the Bible passage from the sermon open, but the discussions will center on themes, doctrines, applications, and implications anchored in the sermon.
Bible Study – These nights are designed to have physical Bibles open and to focus on studying the passage itself. It will typically be the same passage from Sunday, but this is not sermon recall. This is not “what this passage means to me.” This is your opportunity to teach your group how to rightly observe, understand, interpret, and apply the passage. These questions will be standard, straightforward Bible study questions, such as:
• What is the context of this passage?
• What recurring words or ideas appear?
• Who is the audience for Jesus’ message?
• What is the main point of Jesus’ teaching here?Theological Discussion – We want to grow in theological maturity. Theology is the study of God, and we want our groups to know the basics of Christian belief. Over 2–3 years, each group will work through Christian Beliefs by Wayne and Elliot Grudem. This is a readable, concise book to help us grow in knowing God. Each group member should purchase the book and read the assigned chapter before coming. The Schedule on this page will help you look ahead and prepare well. There will also be brief teaching videos in the content to help prepare for discussion. The audiobook is also widely available for those who prefer audiobooks.
Prayer Night – We have already had a few of these nights, and the feedback has been very encouraging. You should pray at every group gathering, but these nights are designed to provide a longer, more intentional time of prayer together.
Care Night – These times are intended for us to bear one another’s burdens and walk in the light together. We break into gender-based groups, either on the same night or, for some groups, on different nights (e.g., the ladies meet Tuesday night and the men meet Thursday night, which is often helpful for groups with children). During these times, we are encouraged to confess sin, pray for one another, lovingly and biblically correct one another, remind each other of the gospel, and build deeper trust and friendship among the men and women in the group.
