Gospel Basics

Introduction to Gospel Basics

If you’re reading this you were probably invited by a friend to learn more about Christianity. The hope is that, over the next four weeks, you will come to clearly understand the basic truths that a person is endorsing when they say, “I’m a Christian.” These are the key elements on which the church of Christ was founded. You will not find anything new here. You will not find anything hidden or secret. You will only find that which God has revealed through Christ as documented in the Bible – distilled and delivered for your consumption.

There are many branches of Christianity, and there are many issues on which Christians disagree. That’s okay. There are some critical things on which we do agree that unite us as Christians. Those things are the focus of this study. If, at the end of this, you decide to go deeper, there are additional resources available.

Ideally, this study should be done one-on-one. It is designed to provide about 30 minutes of prep work each week, including a short video, with the expectation that participants will meet weekly to discuss. Click the button (below) for some basics on how to study the Bible and then select week one to begin.

  • Cross

    Week One

    The Importance of the Cross

All people have sinned against God and deserve death in exchange. Jesus died in place of the ones He came to save. His death paid the debt that they owe to God.

  • Resurrection

    Week Two

    The Power of the Resurrection

Jesus’ resurrection from the dead shows that He has conquered the power of death for all those He came to save. He shares that resurrection life with them.

  • Grace

    Week Three

    The Beauty of Grace

Though everyone deserves death, Jesus gives life to those He came to save. He does it only because of His own graciousness. You cannot earn it, and that is fantastic news.

  • Lord

    Week Four

    The Necessity of Lordship

There is no middle ground with Jesus. Either He is Lord of your life, or you are. If you call yourself a Christian, you belong to Him, and your life exists to serve His good will.

Each week there are action steps to help you wrestle with the gospel and how it interacts with your life. At the end of the study, the hope is that you would submit yourself to the lordship of Christ and follow Him.
